With a million things going on in your life, how do you find time to do it all?
It’s all about time management!
On the weekends, I will often take a portrait drawing workshop with other artists. It’s a totally immersive experience where your only decisions are what tone to put on the paper. It’s an amazing escape and I love it.
The mom part is so easy for me now. My daughter is 21, she is graduating from college this year and she is spectacularly independent and already successfully working in the music industry. She is very low drama and low maintenance and I just enjoy her presence in my life fully. She is as much my teacher as I am hers.
When commuting to work, I listen to content which is sometimes relevant to my energy work and healing practice. I listen to experts in the field and I pick up tips. I studied for my reiki master certification partially in live classes and partially online over the past two years on evenings and weekends.
The trend aspect is totally part of my work. I subscribe to multiple sites like WGSN and Business of Fashion, I get a lot of news and direction from both of these portals. I shop the market in Los Angeles and New York constantly. When I see something at least three times, I know it's going to be important.
Give us some insight into a typical day as the CEO of Little Giraffe.
My alarm goes off at 6 (I usually hit snooze until 6:10 a.m.) I meditate every day except when I don’t. If I check my email first, all bets are off! I get ready for work, make my superfood coffee, jump in the car and head to Downtown Los Angeles. In the car, I listen to something that enhances or adds relevance to my life. Otherwise, I’m touching base with someone from the team or one of my outsourced partners.
When I enter the office I am literally struck by the beauty of our new space every day. The sun shines in through the windows, the views are expansive. I am so grateful to work with these amazing people. I tend to circle around the office first thing and touch base with everyone. I always start the day with hopeful anticipation and positivity. Then I check my email and that usually drives my next hour before I head into meetings on various topics that include product design, marketing, branding, production, customer service, key accounts and financial.
The day always ends in the art department looking over social and email campaigns. I’m usually still working on my way home, picking up a call or touching base with my daughter in New York. Often I meet up with friends, maybe go on a date, or hit a yoga class. Eat, sleep, repeat!
As a mom yourself, what would be the biggest piece of advice you have for any new mom out there?
I made a deal with Ruby when she was two or three that she would never be in trouble as long as she offered me the truth. That made for many confessionals before bed, but it strengthened our relationship and she has always been steadfast in her transparency. And the only other deal I ever made with her was to make good choices. Those were my last words to her every time she would leave the house. I think that taught her to consider the potential of her actions.
What’s your favorite thing about being a mom?
Watching Ruby develop into the incredible person that she is - that has been the most rewarding aspect of parenting.
Do you have any quotes you live by?
“What you imagine, you create.” I try to keep my focus on the positive aspects of any situation and my attention on what I can change.
Where do you draw inspiration from when it comes to creating new styles, patterns, colors, etc.?
All my print inspiration comes from fashion and interior trends rather than baby. We do follow innovations in the baby industry and then interpret them in our color palette and style when they are a fit for the brand. We also listen to parents and strive to satisfy the needs of young modern families in unique ways. We have lots of new parents on the team, too and they provide daily inspiration, along with sleep deprivation!
What are your top three favorite Little Giraffe products ever?
The Luxe Baby Blanket is everything! And I won’t stop until every baby has the luxury of being cuddled in one. This is why our Works of Heart is so important to me. It is so amazing to have the opportunity to give blankets to babies in need.
Little G Plush Toy is literally my second child. I really feel like I gave birth to that one too.
The Airie Promenade Swaddle Blanket. It’s a performance fabric that is super easy to wrap your baby in because of the stretch - and it has just enough cling to hold your swaddling effort together. I really think it revolutionizes swaddling, a huge advantage for new parents!
What brings you the most joy in life?
When my daughter is happy and my work is successful I am the happiest and most fulfilled that I can be. I also have the luxury of working with a dream team every day of my life. That is the ultimate joy.
How do you find time to relax and take time for yourself?
I’m a huge fan of meditation and it’s like a week of relaxation condensed into 30 minutes. I also practice a lot of self-care: monthly massage, sound baths, and long walks.
What makes Little Giraffe’s blankets so special?
We search the world for the softest fabrics and we are super discriminating about what qualifies for the Little Giraffe brand. We always want our blankets for babies to make a statement and be the most luxurious option in the market. And at the same time, they must be functional. They provide security, warmth, ease, and comfort. When babies attach to our products they are calmer and more peaceful. This makes happier families. All the people behind the scenes that touch the brand bring plenty of good energy and LOVE to Little Giraffe.
What is your all-time favorite style from Little Giraffe’s home collection?
My bed is buried in a bohemian assortment of Luxe Throws. They’re the go-to home product for me and then the Luxe Knit is my favorite innovation. It’s just the most luxurious knit we have ever created.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
The best thing I have ever done is to make a child! And how lucky am I to spend my days radiating LOVE to all babies through the Little Giraffe brand.
Best time-management tools or advice?
Calendar everything! Including off-time, fun and maybe an occasional happy hour for your team. It’s amazing how much you can fit into a day when you’re organized and striving for a heroic level of multitasking.
If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.
